Little Boxers: A Better Life and a Bright Future

Statistics had shown that the number of out-of-school youths has risen considerably high. That is very alarming, to note that many of them have been involved in crimes that they unwillingly commit. A number of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) have responded to the call of saving them and they yielded better results, to say the least.

It was a surprise when some out-of-school youth agencies decided to design and conceptualize the Boxing Program, a program geared into the wholesome development of out-of-school youths through boxing lessons and trainings. Aside from these, educational or academic programs were offered to balance their physical, psychological, and intellectual well being. One of which is the Manchester Ring of Champions Society or ROCS, a non-profit boxing club that helps at-risk youth. Accordingly, these kids don’t only learn the fundamentals of boxing; they also improve on their social skills by having good relationships in a community that assists and supports one another. Another remarkable organization is the Dr. Atlas Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by celebrated boxing trainer and television analyst Teddy Atlas. They opened the Atlas Cops and Kids Boxing Program which provided a safe place for kids after school. In the same way as the latter, this foundation aimed to teach members how to box while developing all the other aspects of their lives, with some eventually heading into competitive tournaments like the prominent Daily News Golden Gloves.

These are only few of the organizations that made countless efforts into reaching helpless kids and youths who march the city’s streets with blunt outlooks in life. In return, these children do their share through hard work, determination, and focus in learning and winning. They don’t just train in the gym, they make themselves better. Numerous changes have been cited, from a dull life to a life full of hope and energy, for every time they come out of the ring, they bring with them a brand new lesson. Courage, perseverance, good will, and camaraderie are just few of the many values taught them by these concerned individuals who help transform the world.

To these little boxers, a better life and a brighter future await them.
